World Famous Youth Choir Welcomes Pre-School Children
Barnsley Youth Choir continues to expand its provision for young people in the borough and is joining forces with a current organisation that supports pre-school children aged 0-4 years old. Little Singers was established in 2017 by Eleanor Wright, and provides specialist singing classes from pre-school children at Emmanuel Church on Huddersfield Road in Barnsley. Eleanor also leads a number of choirs in the BYC family and has strong existing ties with the organisation. This development formally joins BYC and Little Singers together in what is seen as an important development for both organisations.
Little Singers classes feature games and songs with props, using carefully crafted Kodaly techniques that are proven to have a significant impact on developmental progress of children. Eleanor is a specialist in this area and is an experienced, qualified teacher who has worked in Primary Schools across Barnsley. Little Singers currently offers classes on Friday mornings, but this expansion will allow the organisation to deliver sessions on Thursday afternoons too, enabling children who attend nursery on mornings the opportunity to take part.
Eleanor Wright, leader of Little Singers said,
“Little Singers was set up as a small venture to support those parents who wanted to give their children an excellent start, before potentially progressing singing in choirs. Classes are a lot of fun, and parents have said that their children love being involved and are excited about Friday mornings. Children always leave smiling and happy, and their parents regularly send videos of their children singing the songs and playing the games at home. Joining BYC will provide us with wonderful opportunities to grow and allow more children and their families to access these classes.”
Ann Wroe, Trustee and President of BYC said,
“We are really excited to welcome Little Singers to the BYC family. So many of these children have gone on to join BYC that it seems a very natural development to work more closely together. Eleanor’s work both with BYC and Little Singers is really inspirational – she is such a talent and brings the very best out of young people she works with. I have visited classes and seen the joy and happiness that these children experience. It’s such a lovely and welcoming atmosphere and parents really enjoy meeting one another too.
We look forward to supporting her and these children and their parents in the years to come, providing further support and opportunities to develop this provision. It’s wonderful to think that there are world class opportunities for 0 – 24 year olds now at BYC, and even babies and their parents are able to have a really special experience with us.”
Three classes will be available both on Thursday afternoons and Friday mornings for Babies (0-18 months), Toddlers (18 months – 3 years old) and for Infants (3-4 years old) and places are limited to ensure that children have the best experience possible.
