It is a lovely opportunity to be involved in BYC for a weekend and meet with friends and re-live some of the wonderful memories that the choir has provided young people with over the years. We anticipate that over 100 ex-members will be involved and the choir will be led by Mat Wright – the person who has led all of these former members in rehearsals during the last 10 years.
The emphasis of this organisation will be fun and enjoyment but we also want to sing well together and provide experiences of quality during these weekends.
We encourage all former members to consider being involved in this project. There is no expectation to be involved beyond this one weekend per year and it’s a fabulous opportunity to sing with former choir friends without a huge time commitment.
The Alumni will wear a black t-shirt and black trousers.

Auditions: Alumni should be former members that served at least 1 year with BYC.
We are really looking forward to meeting up with former members in a really special weekend for Barnsley Youth Choir. BYC Alumni members must be people who have served at least 1 year in BYC. They must be over 16 years old. The first time that the BYC Alumni will assemble is for the 10th Anniversary Gala Concert where they will sing in a massed choir of 600 voices at the Metrodome in Barnsley. This will be a very special weekend and will feature the following groups and individuals:
We will sing 14 pieces together as a massed choir. Most of these pieces will be familiar to former members. Don’t worry! We will ensure that you have the music and rehearsal tracks for each of your parts so you can practice before the weekend!
This will be a terrific concert. We are anticipating around 1000 people in the audience and there will be fantastic sound and lighting and projections on screens. It will be a LOT of fun and an occasion that Alumni members will remember for the rest of their lives. It will also be fantastic to meet up with old friends and sing pieces together. We want as many Alumni members as possible to get involved for this special event!
The commitment for Alumni members is minimal. Those wanting to be involved must be able to commit to the following;
1. Attend a massed choir rehearsal on 20th June 2019 from 5.45pm – 9.00pm at the Metrodome
2. Attend a massed choir rehearsal on 22nd June 2019 from 9.30am – 12.30pm at the Metrodome
3. Attend the massed choir GALA CONCERT on 22nd June starting at 3.00pm at the Metrodome
We also hope that people taking part will practice the pieces using the tracks and music that we will provide you with. The Alumni will be provided with a black t-shirt and we would ask that you wear plain black smart trousers and shoes (no jeans, leggings or trainers).

There is also a party that will take place on 22nd June 2019 from 8.00pm – 12.00am in the Metrodome that Alumni members may wish to come to. There will be a live band
and lots of dancing! Tickets for this will go on sale soon at a cost of £20 for the party and we will contact the Alumni members who have signed up to make them aware of how they can buy a ticket.
