SPONSOR A CHILD: WORLD CHOIR GAMES, HELSINGBORG, SWEDEN / EDINBURGH FESTIVAL FRINGE TOUR 2026 - £250

AUGUST 2026

Barnsley Youth Choir has been invited to represent Great Britain in the most prestigious International Choir Competition in the world. The World Choir Games (or Choir Olympics) will take place in Helsingborg, Sweden in August this year, and it’s a huge honour for the choir to be invited. 64 children and young people will take part and will compete for the title of World Champions against some of the finest choirs in the world – the best of the best.

Following this, 240 young people will take part in the world famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the largest arts festival in the world. This will take place the week after the World Choir Games, and the team will fly in from Sweden directly to Edinburgh and be joined by 80 members of the Development Choir (10–18 yrs) and 80 members of the Children’s Choirs (7-12 years).

This summer 240 children and young people will have an opportunity represent our town and country on two of the world’s biggest stages and showcase their skills.

Your support can help them get a step closer to making this possible.

SPONSOR A CHILD: CHOIR BURSARY - £250

2026-27 SEASON

Barnsley Youth Choir works hard to keep subscriptions low for children, and is able to do this because of the support of sponsors and partners. However, the cost-of-living crisis is presenting lower income families with challenges and some parents are now struggling to meet the cost of their child being involved. BYC is committed to removing barriers to participation, and offers bursaries to those who are struggling. The number of bursaries needed has increased significantly this last year, placing pressure on the choir and its viability.

This support will provide a child who faces significant hardship with a bursary that includes subscriptions for a full year, uniform costs for a full year and the cost of local trips and events. It could mean the difference between the child taking part or not, and your support could be genuinely life-changing for that child.

If you are interested in supporting the Choir through the Sponsor a Child Scheme, then please get in touch with Karen Davis on byckarendavis@gmail.com.
