BYC Children's Choir Central

BYC Children's Choir Central

BYC Children’s Choir Central was established in February 2009 when BYC was first formed. It was clear that there was a need for a younger section after initial auditions. The choir is highly enthusiastic and very popular and directors have high expectations of singers as they start to develop good technique.

Rehearsals regularly have over 80 members attending and the choir has sung in venues across this country including the Olympic Stadium and the Bridge water Hall in Manchester. The choir has sung with Lesley Garrett OBE and Kate Rusby and has performed with international guest choirs. There have been numerous opportunities for these children to work with outstanding international choral leaders from all over the world in workshops and rehearsals.

The choir is led by Eleanor Wright – a highly skilled musician and a real expert in working with young voices. She is ably supported by Rosie Masters, Michelle Barnes, Fiona Taylor and Gareth Taylor. The children sing in 2 parts but have also sung in 3 parts and use special Kodaly warm-ups to develop technique. The choir members wear azure blue t-shirts for rehearsals and white tops and royal blue skirts (girls) and white shirts and black trousers (boys) for concerts.
