Barnsley Youth Choir is delighted to have received an official invitation from the organisers of the 8th World Choir Games to compete in the 2014 event and represent Great Britain. The competition will take place in Riga, Latvia in mid-July. Should it be decided that we will participate, in order to adhere to competition rules BYC will be represented by a select number of members from the youth choir who will be picked following an auditions process.
The cost of going to the games will be significant, and meetings have already taken place to discuss and research the various options and how the cost could be met. If the decision is taken to attend, we will need to launch a variety of fundraising intitiatives, and we would welcome any ideas or suggestions. Similarly, if anyone knows of a local business or organisation that may be willing to support such a trip, we would welcome their interest.
This is a fantatstic opportunity for BYC and reflects the huge progress we have made in the last 5 years since the choir began. As an organisation, we would love to be in a position to accept this invitation, particularly as it would be a fitting way to highlight the legacy that has been left by former Chairman and founder Keith Norton who sadly died recently. He had a vision for the young people of Barnsley, and our own choir, to acheive the highest standards possible, and the chance to compete in the World Choir Games would certainly help to reach that goal.
